Getting hurt at work through no fault of your own can mean that you end up with a lot of medical bills and may not be able to work again for a long period of time. Your employer should carry worker's compensation insurance that will make sure that your medical bills are paid for and may pay for any time you are off work. However, you may have a hard time getting the money that you deserve. If that happens, what should you do? The best thing you can do is to hire a lawyer who works with worker's comp cases.

Hiring a Lawyer

If you aren't working or are facing a lot of medical bills, you may be worried about hiring a lawyer. After all, many lawyers want some kind of retainer up front before they work on your case. However, worker's comp lawyers don't usually work that way. The way that they work is that they will take a percentage of any settlement that you may get. That means that, if they take your case, the lawyer has a reasonable expectation that they can win your case and help you get what you deserve. There are things that you can do to help them with it.

Provide Full Medical Records

Once you have hired your attorney, you want to give them all the help that you can. The more help you can give them and the more information they have, the better your case is. One thing that you want to do is to make sure that they have all your medical records. Not only can you give them your records yourself, but you can also sign releases with your doctors so that your lawyer can talk to the doctor without violating any medical regulations. Your attorney may have questions about your case that aren't covered in your records and talking with the doctor will be the only way that they can get the information that they need, so it's a good idea to make sure that you do that with all your doctors. Releases generally have an expiration of one year, but you can set the expiration sooner if you choose to.

Trying to handle being injured and not having the money that you need to pay your bills can be very difficult. A worker's comp attorney can help you get everything that you are entitled to.
